If you are new to the faith, just curious about Christianity, or new to our community – you can learn a bit about visiting Zion by clicking here. The Christian faith is a journey and it is one we don’t take alone. We journey with the risen Christ and we do it together as a community of people. All are welcome here – if you are new, come join us. Zion is not just a place to attend – it’s a place to belong!
All are welcome.
Yes, all means all (no footnotes)! Zion is a Reconciling in Christ congregation – meaning we welcome all people to participate fully in the life of the church.
Learn About Zion Lutheran Church
Located in the heart of Elgin, IL, Zion is a vibrant congregation with a simple and consistent message: “God in Christ loves us. That love changes everything about us. So we live and love to continue the ministry of Jesus.”
Much of what we do invests in the spiritual growth of people who participate. We have education for all ages, special classes to teach spiritual practices for living (like Lectio Divina, contemplative prayer, labyrinth walking, Ignatian spirituality and more), and our worship life is focused on helping people not only learn about the ministry of Jesus, but also encounter Christ in our midst. The goal is to help all who participate see their whole lives as connected to the ongoing work of the crucified and risen Christ. Being a Christian is more than a Sunday activity – it is a way of living in the world!
Zion is also focused on the community. Hot meals are served every Tuesday for local residents, community groups use the facility for all sorts of activities (we have 4 AA groups in the building), and we are known throughout the Elgin area as a leader in building bridges in the wider community.

Education for all
April 26, 2026 9:45 am - 10:30 am
Learning and being with other people of faith are essential to our walk with God in Christ. Whether we are a young child in preschool or a retired adult later in life, God is walking with us and guiding us through life's journey. On our building's lower-level we have "Godly Play" for preschool and elementary aged kids and Middle School-High School class for older kids. Upstairs we have adult education in the church library. Learning is a great way to explore and deepen our faith and our connections with others!
