The Christian faith is a journey and it is one we don’t take alone. We journey with the risen Christ and we do it together as a community of people. All are welcome here – if you are new, come join us. Zion is not just a place to attend – it’s a place to belong!

All are welcome.

Yes, all means all (no footnotes)! Zion is a Reconciling in Christ congregation – meaning we welcome all people to participate fully in the life of the church.

Learn About Zion Lutheran Church

Located in the heart of Elgin, IL, Zion is a vibrant congregation with a simple and consistent message: “God in Christ loves us. That love changes everything about us. So we live and love to continue the ministry of Jesus.”

Much of what we do invests in the spiritual growth of people who participate. We have education for all ages, special classes to teach spiritual practices for living (like Lectio Divina, contemplative prayer, labyrinth walking, Ignatian spirituality and more), and our worship life is focused on helping people not only learn about the ministry of Jesus, but also encounter Christ in our midst. The goal is to help all who participate see their whole lives as connected to the ongoing work of the crucified and risen Christ. Being a Christian is more than a Sunday activity – it is a way of living in the world!

Zion is also focused on the community. Hot meals are served every Tuesday for local residents, community groups use the facility for all sorts of activities (we have 4 AA groups in the building), and we are known throughout the Elgin area as a leader in building bridges in the wider community.

Building Relationships with Our Neighbors

Then an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Get up and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (This is a wilderness road.) So he got up and went. (Acts 8:26-27a) It seems to be human nature to stay where we are comfortable unless we have to move. Even though Jesus talked about the church’s witness being to the ends of the earth, at this point in the book of Acts they have pretty much stayed in the Jerusalem area. So, a combination of persecution hitting the church and an angel giving Philip a kick in the backside sends them out. God doesn’t want us to stay in one place – God wants us to go out!

Abundance: Seeing the World Like Jesus

When the crowd was satisfied, Jesus told his disciples, “Gather up the fragments left over, so that nothing may be lost.” So they gathered them up, and from the fragments of the five barley loaves, left by those who had eaten, they filled twelve baskets.  (John 6:12-13) Is the world God made …
